MISSION [ brass devil ] + plotting post

Braccia is a bustling, prosperous city full of clubs, socialites, gallery showings where the paintings come alive — and of course, one mustn’t forget the extravagant parties where everyone who's anyone is expected to attend.
However, it has its darker underside: the city is actually ruled by gangster families, and one major business is gambling: on all kinds of things, but not least the fighting ring where mages and mercenaries of different talents face off against one another or team up against creatures brought in from all over the planet.
The city is divided between three gangster families: the Lionetta, the Featherstone and the Ti’shaaz. Each family rules their part of the city, and for decades, there’s been relative peace between them — but recently, there have been altercations between the families as the Lionetta are expanding their influence, and an outright war between them seems to loom in the future.
The team’s objective is to get the orb. Viveca has been able to trace the signal to the Lionetta’s main headquarters, so in order to get the orb the team has to break into the headquarters and steal the orb they are using to expand their power over the city. To facilitate this task, Viveca has assigned the team members into different families and told them to make up their background stories as people new in the city seeking work, so that upon arriving in Braccia they will be able to blend in as members of the families.
THE LIONETTA
The oldest of the mafia families in the city, but also the one most shrouded in mystery. The family controls all the liquor trade, and the speakeasies in the city are under their wing — but the most important currency that the Lionetta deals in is information. Nothing happens in Braccia without them knowing, and whatever it is you need to know, the Lionetta will find it out... at the right price. In recent years, however, they have started to expand their influence to fields traditionally belonging to the other two Families, and there are whispers that politicians in cities around Braccia are in their pocket as well. The leader of the family is always referred to as “the Devil”, and their identity is kept under wraps and only revealed to those closest to the leader. To enforce this, the family has two headquarters: one for the lower-ranking members of the family, and one for the top agents.Greeting the new members of the family is Olexa Aster Lionetta. With a large fur shawl draped across her shoulders and a deep crimson floor-length gown to match, she seems more ready for a party than she is for any manner of business dealings. But don’t be fooled by the easy-going smile painted on her red, red lips. She takes her job as a high-ranking family member very seriously and has very little tolerance for shenanigans. Like all members of the Lionetta family, loyalty and honesty are the touchstones of their legacy, and Olexa has something of a gift for sniffing out the possible outliers.

THE FEATHERSTONES
The Featherstones moved to Braccia a few decades ago, and since then have taken firm control of the arms dealing market as well as the east side of the city. Nothing goes on without their knowledge, and the Featherstone men with their grey suits and barely-concealed weapons are a common sight on the streets. On the side of gambling, the Featherstones rely on hard-won strength and skill in weaponry. Their leader, Brom Featherstone, is rumored to be able to squeeze liquid out of solid rock, and those in his service are both fiercely loyal and afraid of their boss. The one to receive the new recruits is Bianca Mitchell. She is a woman who commands respect and has very little tolerance for insubordination. An ear to the ground and fingers in many pies, Bianca knows more and sees more than she may ever let on. She is curt and concise and appreciates those who are of the same mind. Though loyalty is highly valued in the Featherstone family, it is Bianca who monitors it within the ranks. Speak out of turn about the family and, well, sometimes people disappear with no real explanation. Her trust is hard-earned and she’ll be watching the new recruits with a sharp eye.

THE TI'SHAAZ COLLECTIVE
Named after its founder, the group consists entirely of members with magic. On the city’s west side, there is illegal trade of anything and everything magical, and nothing changes hands without the express knowledge and permission of the Ti’shaaz. Their trade is magic, pure and simple, and they are constantly looking for new people with skills that enhance their power… or who will make them good money in the fighting rings. The Ti’shaaz is led by An’alya, a former court mage in the planet’s capital, around whose exile from the capital there are as many stories as there are tellers. The one to examine every new member who joins is Finch. He’s a happy-go-lucky sort with his head always up and mind always open. Magic runs deeply in his veins, and though he’s never quite truthful with just how much he actually knows, it’s clear he’s very powerful just from the aura that surrounds him. Knowledge is indeed power and Finch is always excited to learn. New recruits will have their magical capabilities assessed by him personally, and will be given jobs that he foresees will suit them best.

CHERI
Aside from having to have knowledge about the families, the team needs to know about one more key player: Cheri, the owner of several independent clubs and the most popular gambling den, Cherry On Top. Cheri is very vocal about her clubs staying outside the influence of the families, a free zone for everyone to mingle without conflict. She is also known for her yearly birthday gala — something that is taking place a couple of weeks after the team’s arrival.
Braccia is a city where the old meets the new; skyscrapers rise towards the clouds while speeders and spaceships zoom past the round glass windows of an old library, and hover-trains take people from one dusty club or gambling den to the next. In the city, there is little that can't be found: hyper-modern tech shops live side by side with shops that sell wooden artifacts or furniture at prices that make you dizzy, or shops that seem small but open into large, magically-made halls full of amulets that sync with all your devices and holographic scrolls stuffed full of spells.
The Lionetta’s lower headquarters is best characterised as opulent: waxed wooden floors, heavy mahogany furniture that speaks of a long heritage and wealth on a planet where anything made of organic materials is rarer than gold; armchairs and sofas made of leather, and intricately-patterned, plush rugs.
The Featherstone headquarters is a large mansion, where everything dwarfs you in grandiosity: glimmering crystal chandeliers the size of a bear, dark, polished hallways and rooms, with not one detail out of place.
The Ti’shaaz headquarters is what one might expect from a place for gangsters with magic: just as grandiose as the two others, but with a twist. There are large rooms a hundred feet tall where all furniture floats in the air, a library where you call the name of a book and it flies to you, hallways lit by fires that seem to burn nothing.
This mission spans two months: September and October. Characters will return to the station once the mission is complete, around mid-October.
The team’s main objective is to find and retrieve the orb from the Lionetta family. To do that, they have to blend in, find information about the main headquarters and organise a heist. The first log will contain prompts for arrival in different families, the team's time undercover around the city, and Cheri’s gala.
The focus of this mission is cooperation and espionage: in the first log, characters will have to act as though they really belong to the family they’ve been assigned to, as well as find information and useful items / ways to facilitate the heist. To do this, there will be four NPC thread slots, and every character has one search request to use on any of the prompts in the first log. Multiple characters can also combine their search request and form a mini-team to be able to search areas that one character would not be able to.
If you want to sign your character up for a thread with an NPC, please respond here by September 8, 6PM GMT. You can sign up to talk to your family’s NPC or Cheri, or both. The characters will be chosen by rng.
The characters chosen will be required to make a game-wide IC planning post for the heist towards the latter half of September. In it, you will have a chance to divide roles for the heist and plan what your characters will do. In late September, an OOC post will be made where you can submit your character’s role in the heist and your ideas will be worked into the heist log in October. In that log, there will also be a chance for two characters to actually be the ones to get to the orb.
The sign-ups for getting the orb will be done as part of the OOC post for log 2. Note that if you get chosen for an NPC thread in log 1, you cannot be chosen for the second one.
The personal goals and family groups have been assigned, and can be found here. If you have any questions about your goal, please ask us here. In the same comment, there are instructions for what to do if you are unhappy with the goal your character has received.

Character:
Personal task:
Family: The Ti'shaaz collective
It's a collective of magical folks! Do you think they put on shows?
Plans for the mission: To reveal as little as possible about himself and still get information from the other people. He's a general, he has experience in being a soldier as well as being a leader. He has magic (It is NOT MAGIC- it's Small Science, jeez), he's ruthless and he wants to win the orb. The Darkling can be charming (Uh, right?) and aside from a few, very limited people, he doesn't care that much about anyone else.
Anyone up for having their personal goal sabotaged? Anyone get a goal they just don't feel like completing? Anyone want their character to keep trying to get their personal goal completed and then have a large shadow man fuck it all up for them?
Doing a heist and working as a team will be a struggle for him. Sorry, it's been like a looooong while since he had to do that, but! But, he will. For the orb.
ETC: SHADOWS, and also, a strangely handsome face. The Darkling controls shadows to the point of being able to make a wall out of them, make a blade that cuts things and also, can be used to blind people in battle. I imagine they wrap around someone head like just a huge cloud of evil shadows? Canon doesn't say, so this is what I'm going with.

also rhysand's task is to last 24 hours without telling a lie which will already be super difficult for him, i'm just tickled by the idea of darkles trying to sabotage that
no subject
Rhysand can command shadows?
no subject
yep!! it's pretty similar to a shadow summoner, tho he doesn't have anything much like the cut specifically. shadows still kind of move and bend around him like they do with aleks, and he has to use his ability sometimes or he risks. going crazy. high fae things
no subject
This is going to be great. To be fair, though, going crazy from lack of use is a better downside than just 'growing uglier'. Okay, and also weaker. But going crazy from lack of use seems cooler somehow. They can play with shadows!
no subject
yes!!! i kind of imagine them meeting because the shadows in a room are split between reaching for both of them and they're both like 'what'. rhysand can also read minds at stuff, but tbh i feel like darkling is Learned enough that he'd have protection against it.
no subject
Hey, so far, no one even knows they're from the same world, so. It's all good. Darkling is keeping his- ahem- obsession on the downlow, using the tether instead of just stalking her around the station. Meh, you know how it is.
Protection against reading minds? How-- would he even know that that is possible? He can possibly calm his heartrate down due to SO MUCH exposure with Heartrenders, but mind reading? You know what, I am all for Rhysand reading the Darkling weird-ass mind. Most of it is about getting the orb anyway.
Both of them just quietly summoning shadows, watching how only half of them obey and getting all '???' about it! Yes! They can even have a shadow-off, who can make the coolest shadow puppets! On a wall... not. You know, like Nikolai.

And may suggest creating some kind of ridiculous backstory as to how they know each other in case they ever get caught.
no subject
There's the party at the neutral place, for one. As for crazy backstory-- oh wow, the possibilities are endless. They're siblings (or just related), estranged by a crazy parent long ago. They're exes, still a little hung up on each other. They're secret lovers, because he's married. They're old friends, growing up together and torn apart by the families.

Peter is already decided on giving up attempting to accomplish his own task, so all Kirigan has to do is ask him for advice on the mission and (technically) once Peter gives any sort of suggestion or advice, Kirigan's task is complete. That way they don't have to ruin anybody else's goal.
no subject
Which, fair enough, the fart one might fall under? Man, I wish I had thought of it last mission. He ended up telling someone that he murdered a lot of people. Anyway, I'm not sure the Darkling can accomplice his goal without knowing about Peter's and then sabotaging it. Would Peter tell him? The Darkling can be very friendly...
no subject
Oh man, that was a tricky first goal because as far as secrets go, the ones Darkling has sure are something. Peter also accidentally mass murdered half the galaxy due to a mistake, oops, these things happen. He didn't do it on purpose, though.
And yeh Peter will be super frustrated about what he got, so he won't have any problem telling people in a 'Can you believe this??? I can help' >:[ grumpy way.
no subject
Yeah, they can talk about it. If they want to, not everyone does. Or can. Some characters would never, ever reveal it (like mine, he'd just nope out or weasel his way out of it, and not tell a soul.) but plenty of characters talked about their the last time. On the network, I think?
Rofl, he didn't mean to! Lol, Peter. Yeah, and the goal would shift depending on who he talked to? I mean, can't really call it a secret if he tells Alina he was old as dirt? Or that he killed a whole town. It was a GREAT GOAL!
If Peter does that, I'll be sure to have the Darkling tag him and take note of it. I'm not sure if the network works during missions. It did the last time, but. Maybe not this time? More questions for the mods. I'm down to sabotage / try to Peter
no subject
He doesn't mind talking about his current goal, no. He won't share his regret so willingly, that's different because he's dealing with crippling guilt at the moment. Makes sense for the Darkling to be much more private, these two are so different in personality. That's why throwing them together into some situation could be so much fun.
Peter really didn't mean to! He was just blinded by grief and punched Thanos when he shouldn't. Repeatedly. ....sigh, this man, I swear. Aye, it would make sense that for goals to be considered fulfilled they need to be significant.
Hmm. Peter could try, for about a day or two, not to help/give advice? But honestly, the moment he seems someone about to get themselves in trouble because they don't know how to play spy, or if he noties that they need help, he will feel the urge to interfere. Darkling could also create a situation where Peter feels like he has to tell him something important/help? That would be closer to fuck up a teammate's goal on purpose. Up to you, really, I am adaptable.
More questions for the mods indeed, and yay, I look forward to it
no subject
It could be SO MUCH FUN! Let's do this!
Hey, no shade. The Darkling was blinded with grief and accidentally created a Shadow Fold that has been killing people for 400 years. He'd get it.
If he knows about the personal mission, and then willfully tries to get Peter to help him? I think that would count as messing it up on purpose. I am all for trying because I an hella easy

They could talk about how to get info from the family?
no subject
But yeah they can def hash things out in plotting how to go about this and all, in figuring what to do here in obtaining the orb.

Ed has pretty similar powers as some people from the Darkling's universe, or he makes it sound like that on his network post. The Darkling could maybe approach him about it once they head off on the mission?
