THE DIE IS CAST: voting post

THE DIE IS CAST: IC VOTING POST

Hello orbers!

The time has come to vote for how the team is going to get the orb from Jun Shortaxe. Note that this is an IC vote — so whatever you vote for has to be what your character would ICly want to do.

Before we get into the vote, here is a refresher on the information previously shared. The following is information that has been shared since then:

• The orb-wielder was Jun Shortaxe all along.

• The orb's previous deal with the king ended when it was taken from the palace.

• The spell that hit Felix is the same spell that hit Jun all those years ago. It's a unique spell created by Ellia so she was blamed for it, but she insists her innocence.

• The monsters in the Silver Caverns were because of Jun's deal with the orb.

• The orb has transformed Jun into a red dragon and merged into his body as one of his scales.

The team needs to vote on the two things, and each character gets one vote to either suggest a solution or +1 one suggestion of their choice.

For the vote, this is what your character has to choose:

1   How to get the orb from Jun

2   What to do about Jun

Keep in mind that Jun currently has an ongoing deal with the orb. The crew will have to break this deal in order to use the orb to bring them back to the station.

Please write your suggestions as comments under the right heading, or +1 other characters' suggestions by responding to their comment. The more detail you can offer, the better.

If your character would ICly add something to their suggestion (offer magic, stealth for the tower, protection over someone or something, etc.) please detail this in your comment as well as it will help colour the conclusion.

The vote is open until February 13, 6PM GMT, after which the mods will count the votes and write the conclusion based on your characters' actions. You only have one vote per question, but if you end up wanting to vote for something else or edit your vote, you can do so until the voting closes.

Note that the vote doesn’t mean that only one option will be chosen — depending on how it goes, the conclusion may feature elements from the highest-voted options. The mods may also ask follow-up questions for some courses of action.

And finally, the conclusion will go up on February 15, when characters will return to the station.

Happy voting!

moving by mod request!!

is it possible to get itachi injured in the fight against dragon-jun? he will be stepping in to save finn and either take a blow or, idk, get smacked into a wall by an angry dragon tail. he's usually so dummy OP I crave the good h/c nonsense. gwen will be there to support!

all players are on board with this but we may or may not directly thread it out due to: time constraints and fight scenes being Whack.

I wanna make sure he's still ambulatory enough to yell at ppl abt torture participate during phase 2 of the voting but yeah he'll be down and out for most of round 1.

Sabriel's suggestion is to incapacitate Jun by having every bard cast a sleep spell at him while the fireproof tieflings act as a distraction, and then attempt to use Ellia's Ultimate Cancel spell to try to reverse the transformation. (If bards are able to cast the spell Sabriel will attempt it, if not, she'll suggest either a warlock in the group or Ellia try to cast it.)

If it doesn't work, if Jun is still asleep they can just try physically removing the orb-scale.

Newton is definitely on team 'cast sleep spell' as a bard! (Of course as long as it's safe to do so and nobody is smashed under a giant dragon, lmfao). They just need to make sure the dude is within that 25 foot threshhold, then they can all launch it at once if there are more bards open to trying this out!

Dante, a tiefling, is co-signing this one and very willing to play distraction. he joined up with the Knights of the Seven Sisters and knows that Jun was very fond of Dweyre so he’ll be taunting him about disappointing the person he joined the Knights for, among other things. also implying that Jun is being very unoriginal and that he saw this temper tantrum done much better years ago.

Likewise, if this plan ends up coming into fruition, Ziggy is more than happy to distract from the bards and people trying to use the spell by being a tiefling who can handle any fire that may be involved; she'll be using her bow and arrow as her primary source of attack, since it's longer range. She will use divine favor on her arrows as well:

'SPELL 01 — DIVINE FAVOR: A prayer said unto your weapon to bestow you with just a little extra holy strength. The effect wears off after five minutes.'

she's more than down to jump off the fortress walls and try to get on the dragon

Sabriel has Finn pretty convinced this plan could work if their magic users are up for it!

He’s real conflicted and reluctant to just go for the KILL with Jun and if at all possible he will be hoping they can simply remove the orb-scale and try to give Jun one more chance to be the hero from his promise to Degar/Dweyre. Finn may risk using his Heroism spell on Jun-dragon if he can get close enough to do so.

However if the Jun-dragon situation goes south, he has fought and killed (very different) dragons in his world and would look to keep as many people unhurt as possible. He’ll be happy to provide sword support to get their bards and tielfings as close at they need to be. From there, either popping off the scale (ideal) or simply stabbing him through it with Jun’s own sword (oof).

Natasha would be good with this plan, as both a bard and a tiefling.

I feel like she saw the whole dragon thing and her first thought was that that fire immunity thing just suddenly got a lot more relevant.

Minimus can also distract Jun with a fight, particularly with Thunderous Smite, which can render an enemy immobile for 5 seconds (and make a terrible ringing noise. pretty distracting).

He also has Heroism for the people doing the distraction if they need the extra courageous boost.

Yzak will leave the spell stuff to the bards while he helps carve out a path to success for the attempt via:

- Lightning type Dragonborn means he can tank for people and WILL put himself out there.

- Use Minor Illusion to throw Jundragon off wherever he can. Can and will use illusions of like, faces/voices of orbers, faces of people Jun knows. Would a Degar illusion throw him off lmao he'll fuckin dO IT.

- If the dragon transformation/sleep spell does NOT get reversed/work for whatever reason, he is also down to cast Divine Favor on himself and since Paladins have mastery of all weapons he can just try to. Yeet himself to attempt to cut the orb-scale away from him. Would obvs need some support/backup if it came to this. c:

Joric is neither a bard nor a tiefling so his contributions will have to be focused on his cantrips, specifically Booming Blade or Minor Illusion. Either of those can be used prior to the sleep spells or if the spells end up failing and there needs to be more distractions (the illusion spell) or a fight (getting into melee range to get in a hit to make booming blade go off).

Zhao can help with the Sleep spell manuever. He'd also be very interested making certain the Ultimate Cancel spell was cast and to that effect will help or combine cast it with whoever else gives it a try. He is a known prodigy so learning quickly and under pressure should not be a problem for him, it's only a matter of if bards have the capacity to cast that type of magic spell.

He's not afraid to get up close and personal with the dragon in order to cast either of these spells either so he'll whip up there with his sword drawn and Booming Blade cast, Lightning Breath, and martial arts at the ready to weaken the dragon as they prepare to cast and do what's needed to take this guy down.

If they can't undo the dragon shape, he'll gladly help pry the blue scale/orb off the beast while they bum rush it. Or attack more aggressively of all else fails having no qualms in hurting permanently or killing Shortaxe for all his trouble. If it comes down to it.

While Felix won't be participating in any of the conclusion physically, he's just conscious enough to put his two cents in during any quick and dirty network discussions to agree with this plan. Ever since hearing about that special spell he's thought that might come in useful for negating the orb's bargain and now that he's felt what that thing can do/what kind of suped up spells Ellia is capable of creating... he's all for casting that Ultimate Cancel on this bastard.

He's also verbally for bringing in Ellia as a powerful ally and bargaining chip since he feels her need for revenge could very well be an asset. (He knows how she feels, okay, it's the one piece of empathy he might actually be capable of possessing at this point.)

Clarke is on board with this plan and definitely willing to act as a distraction being fireproof and would be using her cantrips of either minor illusion or shocking grasp to aid with this too since she can get close enough for this.

Dante is fully taking this from his own experience with his twin brother which has some very uncomfortable parallels with this, but he thinks that since they’re dealing with someone who’s letting their ego do their thinking for them, they ought to puncture that ego in some way. Dante, an old hat at taunting, proposes hitting him where it hurts and pointing out that the types of songs Degar writes usually don’t involve a giant fuckin’ dragon being the hero of the tale, or something about Dweyre, or even calling him a terrible hero, that kind of thing. maybe even not at all taking the threat seriously.

maybe this will be enough to get through to Jun and cause him to reconsider his choices. or, you know, it could just piss the dragon off, that’s also more likely.

alina would be game for joining in on the distraction! as a rogue, she would be trying to use stealth to flank jundragon and act as a general annoyance to try to wear him down. as far as spells go, she has minor illusion to keep him preoccupied during attacks and shadow blade to use any shadows in the cave to her advantage — and would be using her fire immunity to get closer as well as acting as a shield for others during the fight.

Whether the team can apprehend Jun or snatch back the orb on their own or not, they'll still need to somehow influence him to break off his deal. Since this band of orber hippies tend to like going the peaceful route, Kovacs will attempt to make use of his Friends spell on Dragon Boy:
FRIENDS: Can influence one (1) creature within 15ft of you for the duration of five minutes. Once the five minutes are up, there is a 50/50 possibility the creature will attack you.

Since he's experienced in battle and dangerous scenarios, he'll be capable of getting in close enough to achieve that 15 feet distance. The strength or success of the spell is all based on chance and possibly the aid of anyone else who has assisting spell magic. Though the chance that spell can influence the mind is unlikely, with the help of Newt to bring around Jun's squad, they'll make an attempt at coaxing him to relinquish his deal peacefully.

If Jun survives and is capable of being captured/kept captured, once the deal is somehow broken Ziggy would recommend handing him over to Ellia and the other brigade members to handle what happens to him next. She would rather try to not kill him, but if he keeps attempting to murder people and can't be contained, she will concede killing him would be their only real option, since they shouldn't have to all die trying to keep him alive.

Minimus would suggest asking Ellia for help in getting Jun to end his deal with the orb. He'll ask if she has any suggestions first, but otherwise he's checking if she can cast spell that could him more amendable to their terms, severe what connection he has with the orb, or intimidate him into accepting the consequences of their actions. Also that accepting his crimes would make any punishments less severe (he's not going to turn this into a legal discussion, but he's tempted).

Yelena would actually suggest they bring Nina in to talk to Jun. Or scold him. Yelena got scolded by Nina once and it was deeply unpleasant. That old lady doesn’t suffer bullshit from anyone, seriously.

She figures Jun having an actual history with Nina would make it even more effective, since presumably Jun cares what she thinks.

Felix may be stuck on the sidelines during the whole battle but he'll be keeping track of things as best he can. At the beginning, he'll offer suggestions and agree with certain routes for defending Shortaxe with what they've got. He'll warn everyone that if they're not careful in how they deal with this guy it may cause more trouble than worth the effort of avoiding the more cut-straight methods.

In particular though if the battle begins to take turns for the worst, Felix will be the voice in people's heads reminding them that Shortaxe has no reason to take it easy on their group and he's a threat to them all. The guy will live anyone to die for his own cause as he's done it before. Felix will be extra vocal to those that he thinks are more capable of doing what needs to be done (Kovacs, Dean, maybe Natasha because she seems practical to him) or those that he thinks are more easily manipulated (like Finn, Steve, Sabriel) into protecting teammates by force. His biggest line of reasoning used to convince people will be the reminder: "A guy like this already went down the dark path once, which means he's fully capable of doing it again some day. If you let him off the hook, he'll just cause more problems, hurt more people later. Nobody wants that for the people here." In order to facilitate his wishes, he'll be supportive of whatever the other person deems necessary but he'll sweet-talk his little reminder to worm its own way into their head before leaving them to finish the fight on their own.

Note: he won't really say anything during the middle of the fight if it ends up going much more smoothly than he expects it to.
