SEARCH REQUESTS: MINI-FAQ

Greetings Orbers! As we have a lot of newbies, we realised it might be a good idea to have a little post to clarify the search requests. So here it is: everything you've ever wanted to know about making search requests in logs!

· What are search requests?
The function of a search request is to find out information that furthers the mission's objective of getting the orb. In Gyeongje, it was to find information about who had the orb and why. In Braccia, Viveca has already located the orb for the team, but they have to find out where exactly the Lionetta main HQ is and how to break in to steal the orb. Search requests are always counted by character, not player.

· How do I know if my question is a search request?
If your question has to do with the general setting or the prompts in the log, it is usually a general question. The search requests are specifically questions that aim to find information on the current mission objective.

· Can I pose follow-up questions to my search request?
Yes! As long as the search request centers around one specific thing, you can ask follow-up questions about the information that you receive. Imagine this like dnd: you want to search a particular room, and find some items in it. You can ask follow-up questions about the items, about whether you sense magic in the room, about what you can see out the windows in the room, etc. However, you can't pick a different room to ask questions about. Or, if you have chosen to focus your questions on spying on NPC A, you can't ask follow-up questions that deal with NPC B.

· How does teaming up for search requests work?
Basically, it means that you can cover a wider "area", so to speak — if you're trying to stop an NPC from doing something / force them to do something, you have a better chance with more people involved; or if you want to try and overhear what people are saying in a crowded hallway, two people could spy on more people than just one; or if you want to try hacking into a database, there's a better chance of success if someone is playing lookout while another does the hacking. Teamwork makes the dream work!

· What should I do after I have received my answer(s)?
Share it with others! Sometimes, the information you get may seem irrelevant or strange, but when combined with information that other characters have, it may end up being very significant.

· Are search request always done OOCly?
For the most part, yes! In some occasions, a search request may yield an extra NPC thread.

We hope this clarifies the function of search requests! And always remember: when in doubt, ask the mods a regular question — we will tell you whether something counts as a search request or not.
