MISSION [ gold sails, red skies ] + plotting post

OVERVIEWOBJECTIVELOCATIONSPERSONS OF INTERESTOOC NOTES

OVERVIEW

The continent of Hhial, divided into three separate countries, has seen a rapid evolution of technology during the industrial revolution, and steam power has made aerial travel possible — a fact that has then given rise to a number of crews calling themselves “sky pirates”, divorcing themselves from the rule of any of the nations and following their own paths. Many of them have taken to the skies to chase after a mythical sky island, Dracness, where riches are said to await those who can find it.

OBJECTIVE

The team’s objective is to find the orb. Viveca has traced the orb to somewhere around the Hhial region, but its exact location is something the team has to find out on their own.

In order to have the best chance of finding information, the team will infiltrate three different sky pirate crews. Viveca and Degar will make it so that it is possible, and the crews are divided as follows:

On The Blue Dawn: A2, Alina Starkov, Cirilla Fiona Elen Riannon, Clarke Griffin, Daisy Johnson, Gamora, Hibiki Fujiwara, Laurel Lance, Lúthien Tinúviel, Marta Cabrera, Natasha Romanoff, Rey, Sabriel, Yelena Belova, Yennefer of Vengerberg, Yuri Egin, Ziggy Berman, Zoya Nazyalensky

On The Hawking: Dante, Finn Mertens, FitzChivalry Farseer, Iris Black, Kazuma Asogi, Lan Sizhui, Malyen Oretsev, Minimus Ambus, Newton Geizler, Nico Robin, Noah, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Phoenix Wright, River Song, Ryunosuke Naruhodo, Sean Diaz, Shuntaro Chishiya, Stephen Strange, Thistle, Tianyou Zhao, Wei Wuxian, Yujin Mikotoba

On The Silent Plunder: Anakin Skywalker, Andromache, Alucard, Cal Kestis, Felix, Guillermo de la Cruz, Itachi Uchiha, Jake the Dog, Joric, Kylo Ren, Leonard McCoy, Lillium White, Nie Huaisang, Nikolai Lantsov, Peter Quill, Poison Ivy, Prince Arctic, Takeshi Kovacs, The Darkling, Tony Stark, Vash the Stampede, Yzak Jule

LOCATIONS

The country of freedom and innovation, of artists and creators and writers and inventors — Kellir touts itself as a celebrator and patron to the arts and sciences and their advanced technologies boast as much. The city is made up of beautiful and detailed architecture, and the most fashionable individuals walk the manicured streets of Kellir’s downtown core.

Towards the northernmost point of Hhial, shielded by a range of snowy mountains with access to mines, lumber, and fresh water, lies Muchter, which takes pride in their technology to harvest raw materials, exporting them as supplies and goods for the other two countries and establishing a very strong economy as a result. Flourishing in jobs and currency, Muchter is arguably the most affluent country in all of Hhial.

Just a little west of Hhial is Zefindam, which boasts a more indulgent lifestyle. Filled with some of the best places for truly transcendental food and alcohols, gambling parlours, and substance dens, the people here truly live their lives as though it is their last. The cities never sleep, and much of their economy is generated through their casinos and love hotels, of which there are many.

With its lush, hilly landscapes and a single dormant volcano, the Golden Haven is an island past Hhial surrounded by crystal-blue waters and white sand beaches, and does not answer to any of Hhial’s known governments. It is instead governed by its own set of rules, something a little more akin to a ‘code’, and any sea or sky farer is welcome — so long as they respect that code. Reachable only by ship, there are transitory residences and commercial venues for trade, and the only real permanent establishment is a pub at the core of the island that has existed ever since the Golden Haven was made a pirate’s place of refuge.

PERSONS OF INTEREST
JILLEH "THE OCEAN QUEEN" RAHTAR
The captain of The Blue Dawn, a ship that has an all-female crew. Jilleh is well-known for recruiting women who are on the run or otherwise want to leave their circumstances behind, and the crew has gained a reputation for ruthlessly taking down many fellow pirates. No one, except for Jilleh’s first mate Lai, knows how she became a pirate, but everyone knows she is the queen of the skies — Dracness, too, if she can find it.

THE HISTORIANS: BESS AND BOWIN
The twins who are co-captains of The Hawking. Instead of chasing riches, they are focused on historical artefacts, books and documents — their crew is on the more peaceful side, but they will not hesitate to defend themselves, or resort to tricks when trying to find a particular item on their list. Bess and Bowin have long searched for the lost history of the continent, and believe the answers they seek will be found on Dracness.

EDIL "GREYBEARD" HAMM
The captain of The Silent Plunder, Greybeard is both charming and cold, jovial and cruel — those in his crew are absolutely loyal to him, and he in turn to them. Together, they are known as the Scourge of the Sky, attacking not just other pirates but also ships belonging to the governments or merchants, taking what they need from those who already have too much. Greybeard is determined to find Dracness, and has promised to share the riches with his crew once he does.

OOC NOTES

This mission will span the months of August and September.

The team’s main objective is to find the orb and retrieve it. To do that, they will have to learn where the orb is located and who might be in possession of it.

Characters will be sent out as three separate groups, each being taken on as crew of the pirate ship that they have been sent to.

Though magic does exist in the continent, those not in humanoid form will have to take a potion that will either make them look humanoid, or alter their features in a way that will make them seem like one of the more alien-looking races on Hhial (some even look like animal faces but on humanoid-shaped bodies). Which one it is is up for the player to decide.

For any questions about any of this, feel free to ask HERE.

As always characters are encouraged to share their findings and information through the network, and a mod-provided voting post will be posted later on in the month to prepare for the conclusion.

The personal goals have been assigned, and can be found HERE. If you have any questions about your goal, please ask us HERE! In the same comment, there are instructions for what to do if you are unhappy with the task your character has received.

Please use this post to plot for the mission and make your own plotting comments. You can use the form below as a guideline:

Finn Mertens | Adventure Time

[personal profile] heroooic 2023-08-04 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Name: Sam
Character: Finn Mertens
Personal task: Tell only lies for 24 hours.

This is going to take Finn many attempts over the course of the entire mission due to mistakes & forgetfulness. I'll likely pepper his attempts into all my threads to some degree, usually in the form of him messing up.

While I'll be playing this mostly for laughs, I think it could be differently funny/genuinely interesting if this Goal Mini-Arc culminates in him finally making it to the last hour after weeks of effort, only for one of his close CR or close-CR-by-proxy to approach and start up an earnest conversation of some kind with him.

Crew: The Hawkins
General plans for the mission: Stealing this format from Em...
GENERAL AMBIANCE: I would like to use this mission as an opportunity to recenter the arc I started for Finn several months ago and dig into some richer storytelling. A few recurring Finn Themes weighing on him include:
- Equating self-value with usefulness!!
- How morality works when you move beyond the good/evil binary
- Straining under the weight of your own repression
- The lifelong dream (and recently, ongoing nightmare) of trying to fit in with other humans for the first time in his life. Peers (let alone peer PRESSURE) are very new to Finn. Navigating the urge to just be himself vs. sand off his harder edges to be accepted by some standard he's largely made up.
-Lots of weird jealousies of an unexamined nature
- Being seventeen and emotionally trapped between the comfort/safety of Wanting To Be Baby and the freedom/independence of Wanting To Be A Grown Up Man

Now I don't think this is the mission to explore ALL of these things, but drop me a reply if any of them ping you as something you'd be interested in exploring together, and I'll brainstorm an idea that works specifically for our characters!

Finn will also be doing plenty of his usual mad lad bullshit, stuntin' in the crows nest, getting his pirate cosplay on, general swashbuckling etc. But I'm excited to get some meat with my dessert!

BACKSTORY: Like Aldyhion, Finn will probably get REALLY into coming up with an backstory for himself in a way that may or may not reveal some personal wish fulfillment for anyone looking closely. I'm down to coordinate backstories too if anyone would like, even if we're on different ships!

MISSION STRATS: Finn will be vibing in a big way with the twins captaining The Hawking; in ways that are embarrassing and make him miss his girlfriend a lot for reasons unclear. He's also just generally going to be excited about the adventuring and experiencing the pirate lifestyle he Has Read So Much About…which is basically just above ground dungeon crawling, he’s pretty sure.

Equating self-value with usefulness is Joric's whole damn thing. He thinks if he can't be of use than he's worthless so yeah, I would be very into two guys just trying to figure out how to be without it needing to have a positive result for others.

VERY JUICY!!! Finn has been feeling it a lot lately, with the orb retrievals and I feel like they could definitely talk about this stuff, maybe do some kind of vibing. I know they are different crews but we could either arrange something networks or Golden Haven! :> Once we get the log though, we can iron out the specifics of that

Sounds good! Joric has had a couple good convos w/ people where he's vented about feeling like he's not contributing enough on missions so they could definitely vibe about this wherever they are!

While I know our friends haven't formally met yet, I would be deeply interested in working over time towards the idea of morality, especially since Dante's is pretty off in several different directions and not really something you should emulate. Beyond that, they're also just a pretty good listener by virtue of trying to figure the world out as an amnesiac, so it'd be a no judgement zone for whatever else got brought up.

i would def be into doing some stuff with self-value & usefulness and maybe morality as well?

i recall finn has Some Issues around killing, which could be an interesting sort of thing for him and vash to talk about, since vash is someone who takes that to an extreme. also smth that comes up a lot w vash is the idea of helping people who might not necessarily do the same for you, and i think that could be a neat topic for them since it kind of ties together the usefulness/morality themes 8|a
