MISSION [ ghost girl ] + plotting post

OVERVIEWOBJECTIVELOCATIONSPERSONS OF INTERESTOOC NOTES

OVERVIEW

A formerly prosperous city, Gyeongje, has had a rough year: soon after the plague outbreak six months ago, the monsters — all bipedal, but each different, with claws or sharp fangs or deformed limbs — appeared, a whole new form of plague that has not left the city alone ever since. The city guard has been unable to stop the monster attacks, and the rulers of the city are desperate.

The monsters are led by a mysterious girl in white who has been dubbed “the Ghost Girl” — in the land, the rulers have promised a hefty price to anyone who manages to capture the girl who commands the monsters. They have also warned people that she is in possession of an object that allows her to control the monsters and gives her strange powers.

OBJECTIVE

The team’s objective is to recover the orb that has gone missing in the city of Gyeongje. Viveca has traced the orb’s signal to the capital city, with its signature coming heaviest from the palace, but it is only an echo — it seems the orb itself is no longer in the city proper.

The team will be sent directly to the city, where the rulers have been contacted about their arrival and are prepared to receive them as holy warriors who will save the city from the monsters. They will give the team housing, will arrange a banquet to welcome them warmly, and have agreed to pay whatever price needs to be paid… even the strange object that has granted her powers.

TOP

LOCATIONS

Gyeongje is a city divided into three sections: the inner city is prosperous, as evidenced by its large houses with intricately carved doors, temples that shine in red, and beautifully cultivated gardens. It is home to the aristocrats of the city, and the royal palace rises in its center: its peaked roofs and decorations of pure gold speaking of long-standing wealth, though recently the houses and streets bear signs of battle.

The merchant district is the second district of the city, and while it isn’t quite so opulent as the inner city, it is still clearly well-to-do. In both the inner city and the merchant district, there is a heavy guard presence patrolling the streets. Notable is the fact that there seem to be many homeless people on the streets, sleeping in the temples or wherever they can. Many of these people are given a wide berth by the inhabitants of the merchant district.

Between the merchant district and the third and final, outer district, there is a hastily-built wall with red markings — those of a plague outbreak. The outer district has been closed off since the plague outbreak six months ago, and anyone trying to access it is taken into custody by the city guard.

Outside the city, the landscape turns into forestland — outside of the few maintained and well-traveled roads, the forests grow large and thick, and citizens are encouraged to stay on the roads… especially as the Ghost Girl has been seen in the forest with her monsters. No one has ever seen her headquarters, but those people who have left the city in search of her have not returned.

PERSONS OF INTEREST

LORD SUK-JU
The Lord of the City and the leader of the aristocrat council, Suk-Ju is pleasant yet efficient. He has come to power by marrying Jeung-Sun, and the citizens praise him for his easy manner and approachability. Still, Suk-Ju is very concerned with appearances, and his main concern with the monster attacks seems to be how much the constant battles and rebuilding efforts are emptying the city’s coffers.

LADY JEUNG-SUN
Queen in all but name, Jeung-Sun is the last living member of the city’s ruling family. She succeeded her father when she was but a teenager, and has been forced to adopt a strict manner to get people to believe her and do her bidding. She is unyielding, no-nonsense and commands the city guard with absolute authority. Ever since the monster attacks started, she has seemed even more grave in her manner than usual, silent and frowning, retreating to her chambers more and more.

THE GHOST GIRL
Little is known of the Ghost Girl — her identity, whether she is a human or a true ghost, why she is attacking the city… She is identified by her long black hair and her white clothes. She has breached the city walls several times, earning her the title of a ghost, as she seems to be able to walk even through walls. Notable is that she and her monsters always aim her attacks to the inner city, never attacking the people living in the merchant district.

OOC NOTES

The mission spans two months: July and August. The characters will return to the station once the mission is complete, around mid-August. There are two planned logs for this mission, one for each month, and both will contain more information and details as the story progresses.

The team’s main objective is to retrieve the orb, no matter the cost. The rulers have contracted them to rid the city of the Ghost Girl and her monsters. Whether or not those two goals align will be based on the decisions made by the team. (Don’t forget — each character is also tasked with their own personal goal as well!)

The focus of this mission is investigation and information-sharing; in the first log, characters will have access to all three city districts along with the palace. There will be a chance to OOCly submit questions to the rulers and other local NPCs, as well as to submit questions for what characters would be able to see / overhear / find in different locations. The direction of this mission will be entirely in the hands of the characters, so what they find, who they talk to, where they go and how, etc — all of that will affect the conclusion of the mission.

If you want to sign your character up for a thread with the Ghost Girl, please respond here by July 4, 6PM GMT. There are two slots available. Note that if you get chosen by rng, you will be expected to ICly share what you find out to the rest of the team, so make sure you will be able to tag consistently through early July.

If you would like to sign your character up to be attacked by a monster, please respond here by July 4, 6PM GMT. Note that this option comes with eventual body horror. (Don’t worry if that is not your thing — there will be plenty to do for those who don’t sign up, too.)

The personal goals have been assigned, and can be found here. If you have any questions about your task, please ask us here! In the same comment, there are instructions for what to do if you are unhappy with the task your character has received.

Please use this post to plot for the mission and make your own plotting comments. You can use the form below:

Sans | Undertale

[personal profile] skelepun 2021-07-02 03:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Name: Em
Character: Sans
Personal task:
RANDOM - Prank two people (yeah you heard that right pal)
Okay y'all, Sans is hitting the ground swinging and I need volunteers. Who wants to get pranked by a monster? I promise he's a lot nicer than the monsters everyone is fighting (he has complicated feelings about that too, fyi...)

Plans for the mission:
So, Sans is a monster. It's not really a pejorative where he's from (unless you're human), that is simply what his race of people is called. He's been keeping himself scarce, mostly keeping to his room and ghosting around the space station as he gets his bearings -- it's uncharted territory and he's not exactly in the position of being terribly bold about putting himself out there. Visiting Gyeongje will be the first time anyone's really had a chance to see him.

(unless you'd like to play it out that your character thinks they have space madness 'cuz they've seen a skeleton appearing and disappearing around the ship... which i'm very down for btw)

SOME IDEAS:
Monster Trouble
I'm so down for a little mistaken identity between Sans and the more murder-y monsters. Wanna mistake him for someone trying to kill you? Maybe step between him and an overzealous city guard with the wrong idea? Let's do this thing!!

Investigating the Investigators
Sans is going to be watching the people he's working with as much as the people he's assigned to help. His favorite method for that is silently following and watching, like a weird little creep. Anyone wanna get stalked by a skeleton?

Plague Doctor
As a naturally suspicious guy, Sans is gonna want to learn as much as possible about that outer circle of the city. Only problem, he's a physicist not a doctor and knows next to nothing about viruses (monsters don't get sick that way). Any fellow scientists/nerds/generally smart people wanna bum around the shady part of the merchant district looking for clues?

ETC: Sans can teleport and take passengers, but unfortunately not to places he's never been before. If someone can help him map the rings they're allowed into (or maybe break into the rings they're not allowed into, that could come in handy for some hasty getaways down the line...

I am so down for mr. overly serious knight over here to get both pranked and stalked!! he's gonna be so :| about this mission, he could use something lighthearted

[personal profile] skelepun 2021-07-02 03:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I feel like the stalking to pranking pipeline is gonna be a really natural one. Flynn looks like both an easy mark (to Sans, he may be wrong about that, but he's got sincerity radiating off him like stink lines) and someone who seems really eager to help. The nice ones who don't trust monsters are some of Sans' favorites to keep an eye on and mess with.

Just read over your plotting comment and there is LOADS of potential here hohoho... do you think Flynn could be convinced to go on a wild goose chase? Some sort of fake RPG quest??
thinkfirst: (smile | grin | tease)

[personal profile] thinkfirst 2021-07-02 03:52 pm (UTC)(link)
He does, in fact, radiate sincerity and earnestness and upright stiffness, it is a curse and he is called on this constantly in canon

so yes he is a perfect mark! love the wild goose chase idea. He's a little less trusting of their esteemed mission overlords than he maybe would have been before all his ideals betrayed him, but so far he trusts his fellow teammates quite a bit and with how strongly he wants to help the city? yeah. yeah he would definitely fall for something like that

I love all of this. I'm down for both monster trouble and being stalked, maybe in one?? Yuri's whole deal is fighting monsters, so he could 100p try to hurt Sans, though luckily he'll stop once he learns that Sans is sentient. But if Sans stalks him first, trying to figure him out, he would be p pissed even if Sans wasn't a monster.

First of all, i love this

Second of all, let's do the latter because I'm a very big fan of when both characters in a negative interaction aren't completely innocent. We are making this failed stalking fight happen.

Totally stalk Shuusei as he goes around poking at the inner city. He's not the best at that role but he's got a vague idea of what he is looking for.

[personal profile] skelepun 2021-07-02 03:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I am absolutely stalking your ass. The vibe of the Inner City isn't exactly Sans' comfort zone, but that's the kind of tension I love. Let's do it!
latentforlife: (Default)

[personal profile] latentforlife 2021-07-02 06:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah the whole thing is sus so Shuusei's aiming there. Creepy skeleton avatars following him will only make it all the better.

[personal profile] hikae 2021-07-02 03:30 pm (UTC)(link)
All those ideas are good, it's hard to choose! If we handwave some simple introductions/Majima spotting him on the station before (so being aware Sans is on his team), he would absolutely step in for him against guards harassment.

Looking for clues about the outer city is also what Majima's going to be interested in, and hey, about mapping the rings for the sake of teleportation access later... he has to crossdress and seduce a guard, so might as well do it for A Reason (aka distraction) and help a teammate get somewhere.

(And any of these give a PRANK possibility too)
skelepun: ([sans] 30)

[personal profile] skelepun 2021-07-02 03:58 pm (UTC)(link)
...... we absolutely need to combine the guard seduction with getting into the outer ring for mapping purposes.

I'm also super down for a little handwaving Majima saving the day too, I'm SPOILED WITH CHOICES here

[personal profile] hikae 2021-07-02 05:49 pm (UTC)(link)
You spoiled us with choices first!!

Handwaving the bully intervene to jump straight into the guard mayhem sounds like a plan. I can't wait for this chaos

I enjoy clowning on Katsuki so I'm okay with pranks - BUT HE'D BE YELLY ABOUT IT...so it might be more fun to throw him at the Plague Doctor part? He's smart and interested in investigating. Also, he won't really react much to the skeleton thing since "mutant" physical Quirks aren't uncommon back home so he's used to seeing all sorts of people from pink alien looking folks to walking talking orcas...

[personal profile] skelepun 2021-07-02 04:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I can play the clown alright. The yellier the better. And honestly, the lack of reaction will be a bit of a novelty to Sans from humans -- a fun little jumping off point, I love when Sans gets thrown off his game.

I love the idea of him helping him out with the outer ring exploration, too. How is Katsuki at... like, negotiation and diplomacy? With shady back alley types? Regardless of your answer (bad or good), I think it could be fun to play out.

Monika really wants to better herself and be a good person, so she's totally gonna try to kill some monsters to defend the people with whatever weapon she can get her hands on. Of course, most monsters are a bit too big and strong for her to take on, so she may just go for the tiny skeleton monster.

I mean, I'd totally be down for Monster Trouble (and her getting pranked if their relationship survives past first impressions)

also i'm down for saving him from a city guard who's doing the mistaken identity thing ... perhaps after the pranking so shinji becomes aware of his existence hahaha

LMAO i am so here for pranking shinji. Minor retconn on the guards -- the mods have said that the guards will know who he's working with and won't bother him, but the same isn't true for general civilians who aren't gonna be happy seeing a monster haha

River will definitely be investigating. She'll also probably be poking around in the plague district because anywhere she isn't meant to go, she's probably gonna go.

Zelda here is less concerned with whatever is going on. She's just here for the mission, folks. But also, I 100% volunteer her to be stalked. Because I think she'd be super annoyed and that is hilarious for me.
