MISSION [ the voice in the dark ] + plotting post

Welcome to Forsythe Heights, a small, sleepy town where nothing ever really happens. But the people who live there like it that way. It isn’t perfect, as no town really is, but it’s been commonly touted in the past as a wonderful place for children to grow up and families to thrive, away from the hustle and bustle of the metropolis.
With all of the amenities that a town needs: plenty of park space, a proper school district, small mom-and-pop shops, a library, and modest but robust emergency services (police and fire), it’s almost hard to argue with such a sentiment. Much of the infrastructure has aged with time, and some of the up-and-coming venues of the past have fallen to disuse and disrepair but the main core of the town remains.
There have been rumours circulating that the town is not exactly what it seems, hasn’t really been since the Cooper family moved away. Of course, ‘crazy talk’ such as that is left to conspiracy theorists and spooky campside stories, and with All Hallow’s Eve quickly approaching, the hype around these stories seems to be growing stronger.
The team’s objective is to find the orb. Viveca has traced it to Forsythe Heights, but the team must find where it is.
Forsythe Heights Elementary School is your typical K-8 building where the children of Forsythe Heights attend their classes. Most who pass through these doors go on to the nearby Forsythe Heights High School before graduating onto bigger and better things. Rumour has it that Forsythe Elementary has seen the occasional strange occurrence during the late night hours but no concrete evidence of the claims have been justified thus far.
Wright Central Mall is located just on the outskirts of Forsythe Heights, an ambitious project that has fallen into disrepair in more recent years. Once a hustling and bustling shopping epicenter, it now sits empty with all businesses closed, the structure itself a retail graveyard. It is surrounded by tall fencing and has been slated for demolition for years, but no one has since bought up the property and the site remains abandoned.
Forsythe Pleasantview Cemetery is a leisurely walk past the town hall and library, towards the church. Peaceful and almost beautiful, the cemetery truly does provide a pleasant overlooking view of Forsythe Heights. However, the cemetery’s caretakers have a very strict schedule of closing the gates to all visitors after 6:30PM with no exceptions.
DEBBIE MARTINEZ
Happily married and a new mother to a bouncing baby girl, Debbie would never admit that her life is imperfect … and yet she seems to see things. Strange things.
●
THOM HARRIS
An alumnus through Forsythe Height’s very own educational system, Thom has never had any desire to leave this town. He can now be found teaching at Forsythe Heights Elementary School. This would be his first year teaching.

MRS. RENEE MORGAN
Renee has been teaching at Forsythe Heights Elementary School for over thirty years now, seeing class after class come and leave through the doors with brighter minds, some with a thirst for more knowledge, more than she felt she could provide. She teaches the Language Arts (or English) and is also in charge of the A/V club. While she would not consider herself a believer of the supernatural, some things have disturbed her a little lately…
The mission spans the month of October, and characters will return to the station at the end of October.
The team’s main objective is to find the orb and retrieve it. To do that, they have to find out where exactly it is in the town, whether it is being used, and if it is, somehow get the current owner to hand it over to them.
To help the team blend into the town without arousing suspicion, Viveca and Degar were able to alter the memories of the townsfolk, making them think that some of the orbers have been there for far longer than the others. It's up to you to decide whether you'd like for your character(s) to have been there longer or newly arrived.
Alongside the log, there is the possibility for your character to experience jumpscares. We ask that those who want to opt in fill in the form HERE with your characters’ fears. Please don’t feel the need to limit your characters’ fears to one. List as many physical, psychological, literal, metaphorical fears as possible. If you would rather opt out of the jumpscare option, you simply do not need to reply to the comment.
As always, characters are encouraged to share their findings and information through the network, and a mod-provided voting post will be posted later on in the mission to plan for conclusion.
The personal goals have been assigned and can be found here. If you have any questions about your goal, please ask us here! In the same comment, there are instructions for what to do if you are unhappy with the task your character has received.
Please use this post to plot for the mission and make your own plotting comments. You can use the form below:

ah, so this one is a bit tricky! it depends on what you’re thinking with vulnerability and what clayton is willing to do? mal is not trusting of strangers (he really only trusts three people on the station after months of being there and one of them he’s known since they were children and has feelings for). he wouldn't put himself in a vulnerable situation with a stranger for their personal goal. clayton’s goal is interesting because abandoning anyone in a time of need is also a trigger for mal, so he'd be very ??? at clayton being willing to do that one. which could be an interesting discussion.
if you’re up for bit of negative cr to start, i am up for them being in trouble and clayton abandoning him to be in a physically vulnerable situation. like if they’re in danger and mal puts himself in harms way as a distraction, clayton runs away to leave him to suffer through it?
let me know what you’re thinking? happy to do something else with them if achieving both of their goals doesn't line up (:

BUT that's assuming they coordinate on it, and it sounds like Mal is slower to trust, so maybe it would be more interesting if Clayton has the opportunity to abandon Mal in a really serious situation and then can't, thus failing his mission (assuming he can't negotiate with anyone else for something minor like I described above). I'm cool with either case, or something else if you have other ideas!
