MISSION [ 4:50 to vrefesea ] + plotting post

OVERVIEW

In the past century, the dwarf planet of Novis Nox has experienced a significant technological boom that has seen the likes of impressive innovation and invention among its inhabitants in an otherwise non-magical world. An appreciation for art and culture and exploration means that the museums are lucrative enterprises and uncovering rare artifacts might promise great fame and fortune.

Craemore and Vrefesea are two large cities on Novis Nox that are divided by a wide expanse of ocean, about 96 hours from each other by the technological marvel known as the steam train. With the exception of a small island city, Qririe Cliffs, that marks the halfway point between Craemore and Vrefesea, numerous travelers make the commute between the two landmasses in order to better their lives and the lives of their families.

OBJECTIVE

The team’s objective is to locate and retrieve the orb. Viveca has managed to track its signature down to the luxurious advanced city of Vrefesea, but in order to get there the crew will have to travel along the renowned long-distance passenger train called the Steamhallow Express and uncover who might have the orb in their possession, which remains unclear.

ARRIVAL

The team will arrive on Craemore and board the Steamhallow Express at its southeast terminal, which will be taking the 96 hour journey from Craemore to Vrefesea. In order to blend in with the rest of the passengers, all crew members will take on an illusionary appearance of an organic creature or humanoid and have a punch-card ticket as proof of purchase. As Novis Nox is a planet that thrives on invention and technology, it also adheres to real-world mechanics. As such, there is no magic or enhanced abilities to be found on this planet and all crew members with magical or superhuman abilities will arrive with their powers nullified as if they never had powers at all – but without suffering any physical or mental repercussions from said loss. Viveca will have informed them of this ahead of time so all characters are well aware of what to anticipate.

LOCATIONS

Steamhallow Express: a luxurious 120-car passenger train, it was built to dramatically lessen the travel time required to get from Craemore to Vrefesea, aid in economic growth and development, as well as make the commute itself much safer and more pleasant than the journey by boat. The express trip is a non-stop journey between the two big cities; otherwise there are trips one can take that make the stop to Qririe Cliffs, a trading city located in the middle of the linear travel route. The train is composed of cars for sleeping, dining, socializing, and baggage, with the more luxuriously furnished cars for higher paying passengers.

Craemore: Craemore is a smaller city, not quite as illustrious as the larger, more populated Vrefesea, but it is still impressive in its own right. Seen as more 'pastoral' though by no means is it unimpressive, many families prefer to dwell here to raise their children away from the hustle and bustle of Vrefesea. Craemore is fondly referred to as the sister city to Vrefesea.

Qririe Cliffs: almost exactly halfway between Craemore and Vrefesea, the small island city tucked into a formation of craggy reddish-coloured rock can be reached by train and boat and largely functions as a trading post. Shops upon shops, Qririe Cliffs is outside of any jurisdiction, making it possible to find some unique items not sold anywhere else.

Vrefesea: An enterprising city and capital of Novis Nox, Vrefesea is built on several levels — an architectural marvel, bridges and waterways make the city into an intricate maze. Most of the city is powered by tidal waves, and water elevators carry vendors and visitors alike from one level to another.

PERSONS OF INTEREST

THE DAY FAMILY
The seven children of the late Felix and Hortensia Day have gathered together, some for the first time in years, for their late mother’s funeral to be held in Vrefesea. Of varying ages and varying professions, some with families of their own, the youngest sibling is 16 and the eldest is in their early 30s. They boarded the same train as the orbers this day and take up four cars of the train’s sleeping quarters.



VAL PINOT
A commuter on the Steamhallow Express also trying to get to Vrefesea, Valacar Pinot mostly keeps to himself, though he can often be found enjoying a strong cup of joe in the dining car by the window. He loves loud and colourful shirts.

OOC NOTES

OOCly, the mission spans the month of May, and characters will return to the station in June. ICly, the mission will last the 96 hours the train journey takes, plus a few extra days. That means that the post-mission downtime on station is ICly longer than OOCly.

The team’s main objective is to find the orb and retrieve it. To do that, they have to solve a little mystery to learn the location of the orb and who currently holds it.

This mission is a no powers mission, meaning that no characters have access to their usual superhuman powers. Similarly, those without an organic appearance will take on one, and those taller than the average organic person will shrink to fit inside the train.

The focus of this mission is gathering information and unraveling the mystery and as such, the team are encouraged to put their thinking caps on and investigate every person aboard the train as well as every room shared amongst the passengers of Steamhallow Express. Every character will have one search request to use to speak to NPCs or try and search areas mentioned in the log. There will also be one (1) NPC thread slot.

If you want to sign your character up for a thread with the available NPC, please respond HERE by May 5, 6PM GMT. This slot will be RNG’d for a ready-made thread to begin discussions.

There are also two (2) slots to be involved in the mystery, and this ties in with the player plot as well. Characters who would like to be RNG’d for this should respond HERE by May 5, 6PM GMT.

Name: Inky

Character: Sam Wilson
Personal task: "Accept someone else's consequences." This can be anything from taking a hit for someone or taking blame/fall for something. Sam could do this voluntarily in an effort to protect/shield someone, but if you wanna set him up ICly, we can talk about that, too.
General plans for the mission: Sam and Bucky are pretending to be husbands, which is a much better cover story now that they're actually married. This could be a honeymoon trip for them. Sam has his tech with him, which means he can do some nice recon - Redwing can track heat signatures and foot prints, spy through walls and generally traverse the length of the train from the outside freely, as well as use a laser to get past things under lock and key - primed for intel gathering to identify interesting areas of the train, or snoop in inaccessible places. Sam himself also has the wings with him in their pack, meaning he can do some covert trips up and down the train - since he can definitely fly faster than the choo choo goes. Both he and Redwing can carry someone along - though Redwing is a much bumpier ride. Meaning if you have needs to have a spy character sneakily get around the train, feel free to demand an airlift out a cabin window and up above the train roof. Other than that, he'll definitely use his charming personality to try and get some intel.

Character: Eleven
Personal task: "Hold someone's hand for 10 hours straight." Now technically this needs to be done with one person - but that won't stop Eleven from latching onto different people and rack up several 10 hour handholding sessions just to make sure. She takes those personal goals very seriously and will latch onto people with little quality control.
General plans for the mission: Eleven is going to be freaked out losing her powers. Trapped on a moving train for days without a chance to get out of it, without access to any of her powers, she'll be frightened and struggle with a feeling of uselessness. Also, someone help this girl look he part. She has no sense of fashion and style much less for the sort of faux era we're headed for.

Dude, yes - Eleven's hair has also grown out during her three months stasis and the previous months on the station, so Clara should try and teach her how to look a little less feral and unkempt. This girl knows how to use a brush, sometimes, but that's about it lmao.

And YES Clara would be a prime candidate for hand holding.

I absolutely 100% insist. Natasha is among the very few people whom Sam trusts to a very high degree, and he knows that unlike him, she actually is good at that spy and info gathering shit.

(He will never, ever tell her about the phone during an undercover stint situation. she cannot know.)
