BAD COMPANY: plotting post 2 + voting for the conclusion

FEBRUARY PLOTTING POST: MISSION LOG 2

The time has come to reveal some things about the second log. It will ICly follow the NPC thread with Welford Branson, the events in the second log taking place immediately after the end of the thread. We highly recommend that everyone give the thread a read.

Before you get into planning, here is a quick recap of what has been found out so far:

The inhabitants of the town don't seem to have any thoughts or feelings.

Something keeps the team from finding out more about the deaths in the town. The bodies of people who die also seem to vanish into nothing, as if they've never been there at all.

None of the food served in the town contains any nutrients, but the water in there is real. This has led many of the Orbers to suspect nothing in the town is real at all, both the food and the people.

Something that is real is the embera, the snakes found in the mines. Contrary to what the townspeople say, they are actually not venomous at all. Furthermore, there is evidence in the mines of these non-native snakes heading towards the town, even though they are not seen there. The snakes are also known to feed on ash.

The mines around the region supply ore that can be made into pulsefire, a dangerous fire that only burns living things in its path.

Traces of the orb can be felt around a family called the Bransons. The family consists of Welford and Amabella Branson, their sons Welford Junior and Chesper, Junior's wife Poppy and son Jeb, and Ches' wife Chastity and their baby Lory.

A bandit group called the Bouldersnakes is feared in the town and are known for being ruthless. One of the miners in the town made a deal with them to sell them some ore in the past.

Following Lan Xichen's talk with Welford Branson, Welford runs away from the town, distraught by what Lan Xichen has made him remember, and a voice speaks to all the Orbers.

· THE LOG + THE VOTE

The second log will include aspects of survival in the town and outside of it as well as another bandit encounter. Along with plotting for what to do in the log, this post will be used to suggest ideas for how the team can get the orb.

About the second log in more detail: it will be divided into a survival section as the Orbers will have to live in the town that, following the NPC thread, will look very different from what they are used to; and furthermore, as the orb is no longer in the town, leaving it will be possible — but conversely, it will also be possible for outsiders to come in, both animals (remember the sand whales?) and people.

Speaking of people, the other part of the log will be another bandit encounter... this time with, well, maybe you can guess who. The Bouldersnakes will finally make an appearance, so be prepared the same fate that befell the town doesn't happen to you!

As for the vote: we will open the vote at the same time as the log goes live, on February 2. After reading the log, please respond HERE with an idea for how the team wants to proceed with getting the orb from Welford Branson. The conclusion will be written based on what the team decides to do.

We ask that you do this by Monday, February 7, 6PM GMT.

As with missions one and two, the conclusion of the mission and the return to the station will come later on February 13. As before, that will not be a separate log, so for the latter half of the month when characters are on the station, players are encouraged to make their own logs.

Kaidan sort of wants to combine Clara and Peter's ideas. Have people like Sabriel, Finn, and/or Xichen who can give him a last goodbye with his family and a possible transport to a new world if that's what he wants. Have Clara there to give him that sketch and also help with the sense of closure.

Since the pulsefire was what caused the tragedy, Kaidan really wants to try getting rid of it and make sure it can't be created again. Maybe they collapse the mine and also take out the Bouldersnakes. He thinks that adding this might also help Welford find some peace.

Yelena would absolutely agree that they need to get rid of the pulsefire if possible.

Oh yes absolutely, collapse this mine. Just getting rid of the Bouldersnakes wouldn't be enough, since another band mind just take their place and run with their idea.

Combining the two ideas + closing the mine. The pulsefire is too dangerous. No to more murder.

Agree with combining the two approaches AND collapsing the mine.

Yes, this. Ed wouldn't want any more killing than absolutely necessary that has already been dealt. He would want to try give the guy some closure and get him somewhere safe, preferably getting the orb after dealing with the pulsefire if possible.

WAIT i realized i missed something!!

yes to mine collapse, but itachi has been trying not to kill the bouldersnakes and is instead imprisoning the ones he can take down in the jail. just redemption arc things.

so he would be all for the mine collapse but would oppose Direct Murder, vocally if necessary.

Totally here for a combination of both, as well as collapsing the mine and taking out the Bouldersnakes! I'll also offer, should this get picked, that Daisy would help collapse the mine with her powers. As well as using her powers/fighting skills to take the Bouldersnakes.

Shinji’s on board with this and would also suggest negotiating with the orb to let ford swap into the crew’s deal wrt regrets, so if he’s not otherwise convinced he might be with hope of saving his town down the line

Clarke would definitely be on board for combining the two ideas and collapsing the mine to take out the Bouldersnakes and the pulsefire because of how dangerous it is.

Now that we know that the pulsefire sort of destroys souls, it may not be possible for any of them to reach out to the spirits of Ford's family, but Finn's up for trying.

Peter's suggestions about how to find the orb are important, Clara's insistence on empathy and kindness is absolutely key. Collapsing the mine may not keep it forever closed, but it'll slow people down and maybe, in time, the place will be forgotten.

Newt's primary focus in this mission is to continue creating devices that can dampen the effects of the pulsefire against bouldersnakes, but when he's got time to stop manically building he'll +1 to getting the poor old dude somewhere safe or give him closure, AND to blow up the mines, which he'll happily help do. These mines are awful and a controlled detonation sounds like a swell idea.

if needed, alina's power can react with the pulsefire to hopefully make it explosive and force the mine to collapse in on itself, along with any others who can/will contribute their abilities to the cause!

however, she's with itachi with regard to the bouldersnakes; killing them in self-defense is understandable, but actively hunting them down with the intent to eradicate them all doesn't sit well with her.
