winnowed: (sad ✬ upset)

[ feyre wrinkles her nose at the idea of grinding anyone up into a stew although it does sound like something some fae would do. the idea of taking out revenge against alina does not appeal.

oh, there's still a part of her that is hurt and furious, betrayed and wants to scream, to cry, to crumble into a thousand pieces but she won't, she can't. there's no hiding from this, from the truth of who alina is to her mate. not when feyre knows too what she, herself, is to him.

He's a better man than he believes he is. ]

I know he is-- [ she cuts in gently, understanding further that alina has seen the heart of her mate and there's no changing that. she knows now that this tiny human girl, much like she'd once been, holds a piece of his heart and he'd willingly given it to her. because while alina might say that rhysand is not good at hiding his pain, she knows her to be wrong. there was a time that he was very good at it but it's only when he gives a part of himself to someone when he makes himself vulnerable to them, that is when his masks cease to work.

she doesn't need to be told how lucky she is to be loved by him. if it were not for his love, she would be dead now, a few times over.]

He cares for you. [ which is to say, she thinks alina should know she's lucky too. feyre's hands drop to her sides then, fingers toying with the hem of her sweater.

she has the wicked, unkind thought of how it is a little easier to be the wronged party in this situation. she is the only one who hasn't done anything "wrong" if you went by traditional standards, that she has the ability to guide how this whole thing unfolds, she could make it messy and hurtful or she could even take the tidy route with grace, cut herself out of the equation completely.

but she has fought and clawed for love, for belonging her whole life, that would not change now. and even as alina's final words strike at her guilt, remind her that it's because she wasn't with him that he was lost, that he needed feyre and she was not there, feyre understands that alina now has a spot in his heart.

maybe that will pass or maybe it will develop into something deeper, something feyre isn't sure how to handle or accept. but she also knows that she trusts her heart with rhys and the bond between them, that the last thing he'd do is hurt her. he's made that clear over and over again. and if she simply asked him to cast alina aside, he'd do it even if it wasn't what he wanted.

but that love, that trust went both ways. feyre wouldn't hurt him and she can see that casting this kind girl aside would, indeed, hurt him. to abandon someone who has done so much for him, who has clearly captured his trust and given their own in return.

He's a better man than he believes he is.

to abandon such a person, it would hurt him deeply. but he would do it for feyre if she simply asked him to.]

I don't hate you-- [ she murmurs softly, her gaze drops as she gathers strength.] And I think he still needs you. As you said, he is not so good at hiding his pain and I could already see that you have a piece of his heart, Alina. [ she glances up, thinking of the stories he'd told her, the way he spoke of alina with such reverence that she wondered if that was how he spoke of her, at first, to their family. ] I understand why.
